Together in Learning, Together in Christ
Our goal for this year is to teach your children readiness skills that will be the stepping stone for their future years in school. Nursery is an important year as they are experiencing many new things for the first time. For some, it will be learning to separate from you. We will be learning socialization skills, making friends, sharing, and understanding routines, all in a child-centered environment. Children will explore through free play, story time, music and art, and movement. They will also learn to recognize letters, numbers, shapes and colors as the year progresses. We are fortunate to be doing all of this while incorporating our Catholic values and prayer.
This will be a wonderful experience for your child and I am excited to watch them grow. Together, let's make this a terrific year!
We had fun learning about the letter J. We spent a lot of time this week practicing the correct grip "thumb, pointer, tall man...pinch, pinch, pinch" and using our "helping hand" to hold down our papers. It was also fun picking out colors to color in our jelly beans!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and was able to enjoy some precious time together. The children came in and were ready to get right back to work! We used water colors to paint a New Year's sign. We learned the Letter I and made Insects and Igloos.
The children also had fun using the balance beams and scooters. We are ready to continue growing and learning in 2021!
It was a super fun and busy week! We enjoyed participating in the Lower School tree lighting ceremony led by Father Adrian (aka The Camel). We have been making more Christmas crafts and are anxiously awaiting the birth of baby Jesus!
This week we continued with the Letter H. We made Santa's Hat! We used tissue paper and pulled apart some cotton balls. This helped us with our fine motor skills. We were also very busy making lots of Christmas decorations. (Some haven't been sent home yet because they will be a surprise for our families.) We also painted green triangles which made us think of Christmas trees!
The first week of Advent is upon us and the children made their own Advent wreaths.
We started the letter H and read Hide and Seek Hippo. We think he was hiding in the house!
One of the children's favorite activities this week was listening to the Gingerbread Man and then making their own. They love to chant along:
"Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
We have been busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. We read lots of fun stories, made some turkey crafts, and of course, talked about we are thankful for.
We also learned about the letter G. Goldilocks, gum, gorillas, grapes, God and giving are some of our favorite "G" words.
We love when Father Adrian comes to visit us. He always puts a smile on our face with his funny jokes and kind words.
E if for Egg! We learned about the letter E.
We also read Elmer the Elephant and learned that Elmer was happy that he looked different from the other elephants. We made our own patchwork elephants!
The children had fun looking for different fall items in the bin. They had to plan which tool would be best to use and then place it on the correct picture. Then they had fun touching all the different items!
What a great week in N-3!
We had lots of Halloween fun, including a trip to our very own Pumpkin Patch!
We also learned about the letter D and found lots of D words.
We read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and continued learning about the letter C. We stamped some "chocolate chips" on the letter C.
We also are having fun learning the song "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate". We made our own pumpkins sitting on a gate and decorated their faces.
Happy Birthday Finn!
Week of 10/5-10/9
The letter B is here! We read The Bear Came Over to My House and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? We also learned that B is for Bus. We did a fine motor skills activity in which the children had to rip contruction paper into pieces and glue it onto their bus.
We also know that Autumn is here! We talked about the changing colors we see on the trees and made our own Fall Trees. We read Mouse's First Fall. We also painted with water colors.
Apple sorting, the color red with some help from our friend Clifford the Big Red Dog, and painting red circles!
It was a busy week in N-3!
A is for Alligator and Apples!
We learned the first letter of the alphabet and made an Alligator craft.
September is the perfect time to learn about apples! We are reading lots of books about apples and apple picking. We made our own apple trees using stamps and red paint. We love singing along to the song "Way Up High in the Apple Tree" and counting up to 5.
We played and explored the classroom. We are getting to know our new friends. We had fun with play-doh and our toys.
We took turns looking in a mirror to see what color our hair and eyes are. We saw how we are all different and all special!
Nursery 2019-2020
This week we learned all about the farm. We learned about the animals and what they look like, the sounds they make and what they eat. We also learned about what they give us.
We picked our favorite farm animal and played "Guess Who is in the Barn?" The children gave clues and the others had to guess the animal hiding behind the barn doors. We also took a "trip" to visit a farm and got to see the animals in action! We will also work on our gross motor skills and act like the animals.
Our virtual Memorial Day Celebration!
Some of the children wore red, white and blue to our Zoom meeting. We sang a song about Memorial Day and how we should remember and thank our soldiers. We made flags that we can hang on our doors.
Wishing all the moms a very Happy Mother's Day. This year you not only have the role of mom, but also teacher! I thank you all for the support you have given as we moved toward remote learning. I love seeing the children during our Zoom meetings and I couldn't do it without all of your help. Enjoy your special day! xoxo
This week we are learning more about Spring! We are learning all about the parts of a flower. We also learned that V is for Vase to put the beautiful spring flowers in.
We learned all about the special people that help keep our community safe. We picked our favorite community helper and had a puppet show on Zoom! It was so much fun.
Celebrating our January Birthdays! We love having someone special come in to read to us!
